Thanks to the generous donations we were able to purchase a van. Vehicles tend to be higher priced than in Canada but after a bit of searching we found a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan with about. Somewhat ironic that now that we live in Europe we have a large American car. In fact the van was imported from Texas.
Fuel
Fuel costs are extremely high here in Estonia. In the summer time 1 litre of fuel was usually around 1.40 eur or about $2.15 cdn. Thankfully the van has been equipped with another fuel type similar to propane called “LPG”. Liquified petroleum gas is much cheaper at 0.65eur/litre (or $1.00 cdn). While the fuel mileage isn’t as good the lower cost of fuel means we can deliver, transport much more cost effectively.
Ministry
We suspected that we would need a large vehicle to fulfill our mission effectively. This has turned out to the the case. Having a van has helped us by being able to:
- Transport a group of youth from Poland to a Nordic youth retreat in south Estonia
- Deliver food to rural community as part of our food bank outreach
- Deliver firewood for those who needed heat
- Transport our family to visit other Foursquare churches in other cities
Soon we will be starting a monthly pickup of food from Finland. This will ensure we have food to distribute to those in need.
NB! We will be providing our ministry updates via our email newsletter. If you’d like to get all the updates please make sure to sign up.
